Marisa Gasper These songs are relatively short and to the point, still with artistry and poetry. I think many listeners will find this aspect palatable. The lyrics are less abstract. And while the ambiguous quality of Erik's usual diction excites and satisfies, this more direct approach is also likable and gratifying. Many of the songs remind me of old melodic 50's or 60's songs, almost upbeat, with a hint of longing. One of Erik's greatest strengths is in his lyric writing.

I was wrong, you were right I came on too strong, like a bull in fright But it's alright. I'm heading out Goin down, to the best joint in town They got deep kegs, top shelf's just right A little kickin' band, and the worst bar fights If you got them blues, don't fret or fight Just head on down, to the best joint in town Tell me I'm a fool, say I got no right As long as I break my back to keep his check book tight He can take that pot of gold, that he dangles high and buy us all a round, at the best joint in town They got deep kegs, top shelf's just right A little kickin' band, and the worst bar fights If you got them blues, don't fret or fight Just head on down, to the best joint in town

So sad what happened when you asked them but you knew you were setting yourself up I pulled up at the right time, as you were storming out I coulda wrote a book about it Takes so much money & time just to get you high down down when you should be up I know it's my fault along with everyone else I coulda wrote a book about it Just wanna pick you up and shake you like as paper bag you'd tear right up It's good to be legit for whatever fool gives a shit I coulda wrote a book about it Got your scheme now chase it or like your face, it'll wrinkle right up They're all pacing and waiting but they never saw you come and they didn't see you go I coulda wrote a book about it

I was drinking whiskey beer by the barrel full I was acting like I owned the place out where the drunkards go whiskey on the rocks cold as the winter snow I was feeling sorry for myself out where the drunkards go there ain't no trace of logic in the face in the mirror I see open that can, I'm jumpin' in there ain't no soft place for this aching head to land I was drinking whiskey beer by the barrel full I was acting like I owned the place out where the drunkards go - solo - give me your hand I can hardly stand walking is a mystery to me bourbon straight just a taste ain't no place in this world where I can lay my head in grace if I see you tomorrow what will my memory be better stick to where I know myself out where the drunkards go

next time you feel a chill in the room, it will be me running fingers down your neck I will haunt you be wise, leave a light in the dark, or I'll be that spark that races through the night, from me to you those were the days lost outside the maze raindrops were everywhere we were dry evermore smiling face to face wasting through the days sadness not a trace but then you sent me my to my grave next time, that shadow drifts across the room and you awaken in shivers and shakes I will haunt you

Diamond Dust 10:24
When you can just make out the door but can't crawl that far across the floor Get a grip on the vision spin, think it over Did your friends leave you for dead Is all that as much as you bled Are you a fool for giving up, or giving under Are you ready to take some more Keep it all down here on the floor Would you call it an even exchange Think it over I take this and I give you that Once gone, it ain't coming back Trade some dust for a mile or rust Work me over for some diamond dust
