Marisa Gasper If "punk country" existed, this would be it. Erik takes a traditional country sound, and manages to "punk" it up with distorted guitars and interesting drum beats. Along with his signature melodic lines, it combines to an almost rockabilly, "oldies but goodies" sound. If Erik wrote this album to prove he could do country, he did it. And he did it with style, uniqueness, and musicality, successfully creating what amounts to nearly a new genre.
Sina Evans

Sina Evans "To The Wind" seems perfectly stripped down to its core elements: unusual lyrics, spare accompaniment and a solo that would be welcomed at 4 times the length. The simple repetition works well, and there's some unexpectedly fab harmonizing that skitters in. Favorite track: To The Wind.

Oh, my shakes they got me splitting on the midnight train Got warts on my soul, feets blisters and there’s no one I can blame She took my bottles, took my roots, and I’m off to do the same Thunder crack at night: lightening, sweet sweet rain Uh, uh, uh, ooh, my shakes I took the mission and I failed now it’s time to pay heed Ain’t no one gonna save me here in this time of need I can fall to my knees, throw up my hands, find whatever God I please…. Thunder crack at night, lightening, sweet sweet rain Train pulls into town do I jump or do I stay just another band steak waits for me does she like her whiskey straight? Oh my shakes Uh uh uh, pooh my shakes Train pulls into town do I jump or do I stay just another band steak waits for me does she like her whiskey straight? Oh, my shakes they got me splitting on the midnight train (repeat)

Feeling like I'm at the top of the mountain Earth, she gives a shake, I'm tumblin down Face is planted in the ground My sad pleas, they make no sound Some days you can't fake it on your own Gonna soak my sorrows in the water Whiskey, rye, and Speyside on the town Need that bottle to keep me warm Them dark thoughts come on a swarm Some days you can't fake it on your own When you see me smile and laugh out loud It's only a downpayment for that frown coming around Gonna hop the last train to the bottom At least that's where my friends, they'll all be found Looking up all cheers and smiles From the guttter, them stars so bright Some days you can't fake itt on your own

Warden 02:00
Warden, oh warden don’t you close that iron door My feet are so sore from running so far Been searching so high but living so low Oh warden don’t you close that iron door Shirt on my back is all that I have Pride don’t pay the rent the whiskey can’t soak Strength in my hands can love or can choke warden, don’y close that iron door Used to be Friday nights girls, bars, n schemes Now it’s all greyscale, shadows, pipe dreams back down the alley, another story untold Warden, don’t you close that iron door Warden oh warden to you I will plead from hand to mouth these words speak the need Been searching so high but living so low Warden, don’t you close that iron door 2X

To The Wind 04:24
only in those wee wee hours do I see it clear as day but through a haze of who knows what In those last thoughts before sleep it is revealed knowing eyes, but no face, body or grace set out like a proper schoolboy in the morning brand new shoes, books and pencils in my pack at the last light before the yard arrives decision turn and ditch it, make my break, run run run And I’m still And I’m still leave the lot of it to my friends, I always said records, books, guitars and letters, not much more they can light the biggest fire if they see fit or merely leave it to the wind end to end To the wind To the wind solo only now, in the darkness do I know it rough design, defined shape and touch in those last thoughts before awaking do I truly see it knowing eyes, kind face, body of grace Of grace Of grace

Reeling 02:33
If you feel you know what’s real, to hold Hand me off that rope, I’ll climb freely looking down, I see…. Sprinkle, breeze of light into your sleepy eyes…. Tell me what you see when you close them, so tight, in flight… And when waves of terror crash into your room Don’t fear: going under You will learn: undertow holds firm Reeling Reeling when you know you’re right holding on so tight gently out of sight you slip away….. solo In in, oh those moments, when it reappears pull me from the shadows you will learn, the choice holds firm! Reeling Reeling…..

Got you out of that mess, remember, oh so way back when No skin off my back Pulled you out of the swamp again, you was both knees in. how many more times… Told me I was raising hell, igniting embers too Guilty as charged But while you were sitting still, the fire only grew But you know….. Oh you know…. …. better than I 2 x Got me off your back so many times, I nearly cried Until you need a hand Sucker, taken fool like me: ready willing stands abuse me as you please…. Cause you know …. Oh you know… ….. better than I 4x

In The Eye 02:37
There’s never been anything like this light, bright on me, when it should be dark Wanna walk where the road paves off to earth hopefully, route to sea Don’t need to go over the same damn things how many times can I admit defeat There ought to be some kind of line you cross, and you look the devil in the eye It’s either him Or it’s you and me….. Back there where the rubble lies in the wake harsh words, plans and schemes Dark, the night may be, the moon looms high Right as rain, you can see Don’t have to forget all those same damn things Make your peace: breath with ease There ought to be some kind of line you cross, and you look the devil in the eye It’s either him Or it’s you and me…. solo - Oh there ought to be some kind of line you cross, and you look the devil in the eye It’s either him Or it’s you and me…. You know it’s It’s either him Or it’s you and me….

He was a friend of a friend, she was a friend of another and together they shook their hands The party was groovin, he made his move, they ain't friends with that friend no more Both into records, aspiring collectors, spend their Sundays at the record swap Who's at the next rack, pretend we aren't here, we ain't friends with that friend no more Borrowed his Day At The Races long ago, probably should give it back Been so long since she's seen him, might as well keep it, she ain't friends with that friend no more Left her with that drink tab way back when weasled out of the tip and now that barmaid has it in He only ever calls when he's drunk or nostalgic, never knows when to quit Glad he introduced us, but in truth he's a bore We ain't friends with that friend no more

Coded Lines 02:58
Memory’s a tragic thing when poured over them rocks You ask yourself if you’ve been just where you came The doorway’s tall and narrow, you vision’s going soft Raising heck when you belong in bed… Using coded lines - coded lines Coded lines - colored lies Coded lines - coded lines Colored lies, them coded lines Monday was the same as most, muse tugging at your sleeve Take that run or just cool off your heels Blow it off the same as always, pouring that next drink You’ll think it out when thinking sounds like fun Using coded lines - coded lines Coded lines - colored lies Coded lines - coded lines Colored lies, them coded lines solo Demons you may call them though the mirror don’t agree shake their hand, feel the heat all the same…. both you and me…. Memory may fail you when that motor springs a leak Do you patch it up or, ah, just let it bleed Doorway’s tall and narrow, open swinging in the breeze Go back to bed or use it as you please…. With them coded lines - coded lines Coded lines - colored lies Coded lines - coded lines Colored lies, them coded lines

Paces 03:33
Took my trade out on the paces, figured mornings were for them could’ve stayed to watch the fires but there was that glow upon the trail so…. I followed it… Your hands, they trembled when you spoke it The note was signed, duly dated I hear others, they were escorted But I was left to stagger blind, kicked ….. but elated solo Fall, it filled that place inside you Which none can see but only sense here The wind was crisp, the chill unshaken Seems the paces will outlast …. whatever traces …

IRON, CROSS, AND BONE And the sky opened, purple flow in streams below blind panic, to and fro The masters sprinkled seeds to fall and wet the lands with rain By lakes, they wandered, dazed in lazy haze mountains grew by moments, hands laced with age In bands they ran, futile in joy, careless in vanity This is how, this is how, this is how, it began In camps they laid traps for selfish vice and valor At night they built fires reaching the stars in terror The voices called them home, but to east and west they fled The right was theirs to pleat their heirs with iron, cross and bone Sands as white and spanning wide as far as the eye could see were bled to glass, sharpened staffs, metal filled the mold Knuckles cracked, whips lashed, the sea and waves crashed red The masters surely split the sky and hailed dread on every head This is how, this is how, this is how, it began…. Iron, cross and bone
