Marisa Gasper Erik seems to have taken a decidedly country left, or has he been headed there all along? Yet always unique, also - Velvet Underground? His style has that groove: often repetitive, never boring. His love of explosive/expressive guitar solos becomes clear in tracks like “A Spectre.” Instrumentals like musical reminiscing, with a wistful longing. As usual, with ambiguous meaning, the lyrics’ intentions seem veiled, yet always paint fascinating pictures. Erik’s lyrics are like abstract art. Favorite track: A Spectre.

As you lay there and wonder If time runs in a stream Straight ahead or round corners Tell me now, would you please The hand writes steady No fool shall heed In the distance a circle widens with ease All light it does swallow Jump in if you please The hand writes steady A fool minds no need The hand writes steady The mind it takes leave Solo In known unknown appeased In known unknown appeased Repeat

A Spectre 05:13
There's something in my way Follows me home Face of pale white Hands of cold grey Ain't got nothing good to say Says I know what you're trying to do Trying to fix yourself a reason to stand it Gonna paint your days trouble Nights of spilled milk Gonna have you seeing double Down the stairway you fell Now your head can't shake it And your feet can't take it Your soul can't shake it Buy you'll make it

No Ride 02:19
You said I was in the right place at the wrong time Ready on the beach at low tide Bags packed, on time, empty jetway Get me out of here, prime time 3, 4 in the morning whirs and sirens Toss and tumble, find the floor Wasn’t there something some time you might have mentioned. Covered mirrors easy ride But when the need is flowing Broken bottles, spilled wine You said it was coming round the corner Packed bags, on time Ready at the gate, empty jetway Covered mirrors, no ride

The Comedown 02:29
Sister ... release with me Leave your coat Leave it at ease for The come down, lady Set it down clean Above ground Mister, stay clear of me Leave it, arms to the sea for The comedown, maybe Get down for me Above ground .... The comedown Maybe, get down with me Above ground All roads lead to Neighbor, tell me what do you see The distance leads all ships to see Run aground, neighbor Run the ground with me Above ground The comedown, maybe Get down with me Above ground The comedown, maybe Get down with me Above ground All roads lead to The comedown

Where were you when they called Offered it right But you couldn’t show Didn’t you know You had the whole night That’s how you roll Stumble and flow Lost lightening We practiced good and we tried real hard Neighbors complaining Should have known the weight of the stone dragging us under That’s how we roll Stumble and flow Lost lighting Through the door Onto the floor Back slapping We’ll take the bar No? Then how many drink tickets ? Park in the back No Pull up and load You’re on your own On your own Enough did show We gave it a go Midnight ramblin Cops and batons Cars were towed Goddamn ya Thats how we roll Stumble and flow Lost lighting Decades gone Shades now drawn Oh that lost lighting

The Magician 06:21
The magician stood and saw the land Fine place, a good home must stand A castle for my keep But he was lone and oh, so weak Spied a frog for a man from he sprang From frightful spell They turned the mud Fashioned the stone Soon a lone wall, it stood Grey and strong But he was tired, his ire was drawn So a man from another frog stood Fit and grand They raised more walls, they pulled a roof Till the castle emerged into view Solid and proud But he grew tired so yet again More frogs conscripted from home Became men so fit Soon rushed a moat, now spanned a bridge Sharp towers cut through the clouds What mercy none gives But he was tired, sat amid the shade Pulled another frog from the grey Now two arms and too legs The men worked long The men worked strong Singing songs of their watery home May they return, he shall never tell Ballrooms crossed halls of marble grand As he dreamed of the parties he’d lead Dark Magic and fire There must be a cellar so full of wine So below did the earth crack and give Walls went up neat As the magician whipped, with water teased As the frogs with their backs under siege Muscled and weaved. But as the sun waned, he wanted more More and more and faster do plead As the men rushed to please So he pulled yet more, until the creek was bare But so many men now did work, and the castle did gleam But as he marveled sat as the cellar rose The men lifted a new fort of stone Tall enough for a throne They sat him tall, they sat him proud Just before they sealed tight the wall Cellar ceiling to floor And As he raged, as he cursed and screamed The men swam the moat to the creek Home once again And you can hear his screams if you cross the land Thin, hollow, no magic can pass from clawed hands through the stone The castle stands tall, the castle gleams But there stands tall trees along the creek Their water does teem.

When I was in the city I’d wander those polished stone streets I went back to that city so fair There was nothing there My heart is with the ocean Chill and thin was the air I went back to that ocean so fair There was nothing there Oh that bar with its cinema seats, green snakes in the air I went down to that bar, darkened street There was nothing there Oh, evening, it spirals and sings Of empty bottles that clink Crack one more open and pass it on down Phantom hand doesn’t reach When I was in my old skin so fair I let them fall where they stood When look into my young and wide eyes There's nothing there I went back I went down I went through can’t retrace Can’t re-step Can’t remake Can’t Re-tune

Dusted 07:06
Was it that you meant to say When I was turned the other way Was it that we lost the day Moon sings, dust for your dreams I was on my way, lights, stops, curse the same You were making waves, in the hush, pull of shame Will you cling the sheets as you see it hover Does it speak your name ….. Do you obey Was is that we lost the day Moon sings dust for your dreams You were making waves, in the hush pull of shame Where do we hang the frame, no picture barren gaze Does the distance stay or retreat, cast away

Too many hangovers And not enough heartaches You give your time and love to the bottle And it rolls right away with you Too many nights wasted Catching up with the day Your shadow steps over you As you’re crashed in the hay Only so many hours to go When you’re ready for that aching, you’ll know. Until then it’s ... Too many rest stops, not enough tread on them tires You’ll be on the ball by noon But back in the ditch by five So many fine records but an old dull needle Playing suitor to your ego then it leaves you with the bill Only so many hours to go When you’re ready for that aching, you’ll know Solo Too many hangovers And not enough heartaches Put the cap or cork on it and ride the breeze into town Share a smile if you’re able, always chancing a frown Take a sure hand for a waltz Two step it back out Only so many hours to go When you’re ready for that aching you’ll know
